"Buy With Confidence” from a business near you

Twenty-three more East Sussex traders have successfully made it onto the Buy With Confidence list by proving they provide great customer service.

Businesses receive the Buy With Confidence mark if they can show their staff are properly trained, have the relevant clearances and respond promptly and correctly to any complaints.

Local business representatives attended a special reception where they were awarded their certificate from the Councillor John Barnes, Chairman of the County Council.

For the first time, estate agents and travel agents have been added to the diverse range of businesses on the list, ensuring customers in East Sussex have a full range of services that they can use in confidence.

The scheme which began in May 2004 now has 228 approved businesses and is part of a regional group of Trading Standards Authorities across the South East who have all agreed to adopt Buy With Confidence as their good trader scheme.

The regional group was recently welcomed by the Office of Fair Trading as members of their Local Authority Approved Trader Scheme Network.

Buy With Confidence is the first regional scheme member of the Network and in joining had to demonstrate a commitment to develop and share good practice in order to protect consumers and support reputable businesses.

Consumers looking for Buy With Confidence members can now find the scheme on the Office of Fair Trading website as well as the East Sussex County Council website.

Councillor Bob Tidy, Lead Cabinet Member for Community Safety said "The support from the Office of Fair Trading further underlines the value of this important scheme. It is also an acknowledgement of the processes the businesses must adhere to as part of their membership.”

In May this year, the Approved Trader Directory was launched and a second updated edition is planned for release at the end of October.
